Common questions
How do I add a medicine?
Open the Medicines tab (the pill icon at the bottom), then tap the + button in the top-right corner. Taken walks you through the rest.
How do I change when my reminders go off?
Go to Settings (the gear icon) to adjust your default wake and sleep times. For a specific medicine, tap it on the Medicines tab to edit its schedule.
What’s the difference between ’fixed times’ and ’interval’ scheduling?
When you add a medicine, you choose how it’s timed. Fixed times fire at set clock times every day (8:00 AM, 2:00 PM, 8:00 PM). Interval fires every so many hours starting from when you mark yourself awake — ideal for medicines dosed ’every 4 hours from waking.’ Each medicine can use whichever fits.
What happens if I take an interval dose early or late?
Taken re-spaces the rest of the day from when you actually took it, so the gap between doses stays steady instead of bunching up. Fixed-time doses always stay on their set clock times.
How do I set a food restriction on a medicine?
Open the medicine on the Medicines tab and set its food-restriction window — how long to avoid food before and after each dose. Taken then shows a green/amber/red status and a ’finish eating by…’ heads-up so you know when to hold off.
Can I see my next dose and food window on my Home Screen?
Yes. Add the Taken widget from your Home Screen (touch and hold the screen, tap the + in the corner, and search for Taken). It shows your last and next dose and any active food restriction — no need to open the app.
Why do I need to allow alarms?
Taken uses your phone’s built-in alarm system so reminders are loud enough to hear — even when your phone is on silent or you’re napping. Without this permission, the app can’t remind you reliably.
Is my data backed up?
Your data is stored only on your device, which keeps it private. If you delete the app, your data is deleted too. A future version will add optional backup.
Does Taken work without internet?
Yes. Taken works entirely offline — no internet connection is needed, ever.
Does Taken cost anything? Can I support it?
Taken is free, and it always will be — every feature works for everyone, with nothing locked behind a paywall. If you have the means and would like to support its continued development, there’s a completely optional tip jar under Settings → Support the App, with one-time or monthly options. It unlocks nothing extra; it’s simply a way to help, and it’s always okay not to.
Is Taken a medical device?
No. Taken is a reminder tool — it isn’t a medical device and doesn’t give medical advice. Always follow your doctor’s instructions, and keep another reminder as a backup for anything critical. Alarms can fail.
